MacBook Pro 14: My first impressions after the butterfly keyboard.
My previous laptop was the Macbook Pro 2018 15'' Touch Bar, it was a good computer until it wasn't. The keyboard started to suck quicker than I was expecting to. That model only came with the infamous 256 GB SSD and that ran out of space pretty quick; 16 GB of RAM was OK for a while but then my needs changed (that's on me, I couldn't afford a spec up either). And everytime I wanted to do more than watching a Youtube video, the laptop couldn't handle the heat and my fingers would start burning everytime I hit a key. And, also, did I mention that the keyboard sucks? Well, chasis overheating makes sticky keys worse.
But, that's not a problem anymore. This new computer is great.
My review so far:
It works, the keyboard doesn't suck anymore.
It works and my fingers aren't burning anymore from the heat of the chasis.
It works and the screen is great.
It works and the sound is great.
It works and the camera is OK (it does something weird, it washes my face off)
What am I going to use it for?
Mainly for programming; very very mundane stuff: VSCode, NextJS, NodeJS, Typescript, Docker. I'm also going to virtualize Windows to run Supermemo.
Specs.
Macbook PRO 14 M1 Pro 32 GB RAM 1 TB SSD.
It's the basic model but I went for the 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB to have some room to virtualize a Windows VM and to "future proof".
